November

SAAB might move overseas now when it has gotten new owners since it has been bought by Chinese companies Youngman and Pang Da. It also means that more employers risk getting resigned… Is the future of SAAB, really saved now and will they be able to pay their employers’ salaries now (like you would expect a company to do..)

Don’t plan a trip to Thailand in the near future since there is a likelihood that a big flood will affect not only Bangkok but also 26 neoughbouring districts. So maybe you’re better of celebrating Christmas in Sweden or anywhere else expect Thailand, or any wartown, or otherwise suffering country… Like for instance Peru who apparently experienced an earthquake on Friday…

Did you know that the Norwegian guy that was responsible for the big massacre in June might get a lowered sentence since he apparently spared the lives of the youngest participants at the youth camp.. this might happen because the security in Norway at the time is suspected to have been lower then what it should have been… Doesn’t that seem backwards… ?

And a Swedish man forced his young daughter to decieve the authorities by pretending to be a mentally disabled person during several years. This plot was discovered once the girl escaped, and now she not the father might be forced of repaying the governmental support that was given to her parents…

Oh, yeah apparently fat isn’t as bad as they first believed no, not by far instead the new health enemy is sugar !!!! In England they even have a specialized departements that helps young children withdraw their teeth by sedation…

Just for the record this entry didn’t become what I planned it too be… It’s just two months left of 2011 and then it’s 2012…

2011

USA and (North) Korea seems to have agreed to begin returning the remains from American soldiers that were killed in the Korean War (1950 – 1953). Sources say that approximately 8.000 US soldiers are still missing….

Elsewhere, Thailand has been hit by the worst flood in over 50 years which now seems to be threatening Bangkok as well as the technical production… So far about 113.00 people have been forced to evacuate their homes. And Thailand is one of the leading producers of hard drives for Apple, Intel and Dell…

Cyworld vs Facebook

Apparently Koreans generally prefer Cyworld (Nate) over Facebook although some Koreans have Facebook but far from all….

So I will some day , very soon I hope try to sign up for a Cyworld account, I sort of feel like I should since my birth family (or parts of it) is registered there. The thing is my Korean isn’t good enough yet so I have to wait and hopefully I will be able to sign up for it when I’m in Korea.

Fingers crossed.

Korean dream

There was a time when I was convinced that the ultimate dream would be to study in Korea as an exchange student. However that’s not an option for me at first I was very disapointed but now I’m not so disappointed anymore. There’s still other possibilites to study Korean in Korea. My Korean dream lives on for a little while longer…

But I must say our relationship is pretty akward. Go figure.

25th Anniversery comming up….

Did you know that the oldest post adoption foundation was founded in Sweden 25 years ago? Well it was and in August it’s the big celebration.

I think it’s a bit sad that such an organization has been needed for so long but on the other hand such an organization could be useful for many KADs. And there are quite a few KADs in Sweden if you didn’t know already…

Since it was founded in the middle of August in 1986 the celebration will also be held in August…

Adoption statistics

Records say that Korean adoption begun in 1953 as a result of the Korean War, which in return had created a new problem even seen as a threat by some. Some data says that as many as 200.000 Korean children has been adopted both domestically and internationally. I say adopted since there are cases where the adoptee hasn’t been an orphan…

However the statistics of total number of adoptions shouldn’t be 100 % trusted since domestic adoptions remains something less wellknown still today although certain improvements has been made… In some cases there are no records or little information of a domestic adoption having taken place which makes it a little difficult.

Now in 21th century Korea the biggest problem seems to be found in unmarried Korean women that might risk falling pregnant and as a result being shunned by their respective families. Luckily there are organizations out there that are trying to improve the rights of adoptees, unwed mothers and the birth families…

China, Japan & Korea

China is apart from Korea the only other Asian country that I know of that has an aggressive family policy that only allows one child per family. This has meant that China by the early 21st century accepted foreigners to adopt these children. A few years later they adjusted their requirements on prospective adoptive parents. They no longer allow single parents to apply or people over 42.

Korea begun to seek adoptive parents around the time of the Korean War, and almost 60 years later they still continue playing adoptees overseas.

Japan, the other Asian country is the only country that doesn’t allow or accept foreigners to adopt their children. Instead relatives or extened family members or relatives decide to care for them and raise them. There was supposedly a request adopt Japanese children after the hideous tsunami/earthquake and nuclear crisis leving millions homeless, missing, wounded or dead.

So this is me

I was adopted almost 25 years ago to Sweden to a middle aged couple that not only was supposed to care for me and raise but they were to become my parents. Of course they couldn’t become my biological parents since my mum hadn’t given birth to me and more importantly my biological parents were Korean. I was their Korean adopted daughter. They tell me that they have raised me and treated me just as if I was their own… But how can you really know that ?

To me that’s pure speculations something I strongly detaste.

My life begun about 25 years ago but my story started years before I even was born…

Adoption is the start of a lifelong scar, neverending trauma caused by rejection and separation involuntary or otherwise.
